Life Before 'I Do'. 3

Mr. Steve approached Mr. Tony with excitement written all over him after their weekly Christian youths meeting. ‘O boy! There’s something I’ve been meaning to share with you’ Tony replied, ‘Oh really? You sound so excited, man. What could be the secret of the excitement? Have you decided to go into courtship with your friend Blessing?’ ‘Nah!’ replied Steve. ‘Blessing is a good girl, a pretty girl with good character but she is not complete for what I desire in a woman’. Tony looked at him with eyes wide open and mouth agape and said, ‘Oh my God! I don’t seem to understand you guy!

Blessing is a good girl, a pretty girl with good character yet not complete for what you desire in a woman? What again would a normal Christian man desire in a woman if not the mentioned qualities and both of you have been good friends for quite some time now? Don’t you think the devil you know is better than the angel you do not know?’ Steve interrupted him immediately when he noticed that he was sounding convincing. ‘Look man, when you meet this lady, you will understand why I chose her. She is the bomb. She is so sexy’.

Before Steve could open his mouth to make another comment, Tony cut him short. ‘Bro. Steve! May be I have to add that to your name to remind you who you are! I’m so surprised and uncomfortable with the kind of words spilling out from your mouth this evening. Hope you are alright?’ Steve replied, Why not? I’m perfectly alright. Look, I’ve come a long way in worshipping God in truth and in spirit. I wouldn’t want to fail Him in moral life especially as a married man.’ ‘I still cannot get you Steve’ Tony replied him looking more confused. Steve placed his right hand on his shoulder and said, ‘I need a woman who can satisfy me sexually! I need a woman who can make me feel like a real man so that I will have NO cause to fall into the arms of another woman. Yes Ada is good but I don’t see her as someone who can fit into the role I’m talking about’. Tony looked into his eyes and said, ‘Steve, I think you are wrong! What made you think Ada cannot be that woman that can give you the sexual satisfaction you want? Yes she may be reserved because of her relationship with God but you it will be too wrong to judge her in that area based on what you think you are seeing now, or is it because she doesn’t dress seductively?’ ‘Nahhh!’ Mr. Steve cut in. ‘By their looks we shall know them.’ Both of them let out a thunderous laugh hitting each other like the way they always do when sharing a joke. Finally, Tony said. ‘You see, I thank God for catching you very young. If not, you would have been a very naughty bad boy. But please be careful. My instinct tells me that you are about making a grievous mistake’ Steve patted Tony’s back saying, ‘never mind my dear friend. I believe I made the right decision.’

After about two days, Tony joined Steve for lunch where Steve introduced Tracy as his FIANCEE. Tracy nonchalantly greeted Tony and continued rattling with stories upon stories that she nearly did not notice Tony excused himself back to his office. Later in the evening, Tony called Steve and said, ‘Steve, we’ve come a long way and it will be too wrong of me to watch you make a lifetime mistake. The lady I saw you with is bad news as a wife to be. She can be good for someone else but definitely not for you. Steve, that girl is morally bankrupt. Yes, she may be very pretty and sexy as you implied but her appearance depicts a bitch! She sounds so rude and spoilt, she is a talkative and she lacks manners’ ‘Hei!’ Steve interrupted him from the other end. ‘That’s so unfair Tony! How can you condemn and judge someone you just shared not more than 30 minutes with? That’s so unfair! Look, Tracy is an Angel in human form. I feel so happy and complete whenever I’m with her. Look, you need to know this girl. Yes she may be a little bit wild but she will change. When I introduce her to Christ, she will definitely change. Believe me.’ Tony asked Steve a question with a very cold and stern voice. ‘Steve, have you slept with this Tracy girl?’ ‘God forbid!’ Steve shouted from the other end. ‘Tony, what do you take me for? What sort of question is that? Tony, have you forgotten who you are speaking with? This is Bro Steve. I made a vow to God and you know it. I can never have sexual relationship with anybody until I’m married. That’s why I’m planning to wed Tracy by December to avoid breaking my vow to God cause I’m so in love with Tracy’ ‘What!’ Tony shouted. ‘Steve, you already made a decision to wed a girl you met last month in the next three months? Something is really wrong with you. You’re not in love but you are totally lost in lust with this Tracy of a girl. Hello! Hello! Hello! Steve, are you there! What? Steve hanged up on me!’

After the telephone conversation, Steve started avoiding Tony. He gradually started withdrawing from Church activities. Tony tried all he could to talk things out with him but he proved all Tony’s effort abortive. One cold evening, Tony’s phone rang. He picked the phone from his table and noticed that Steve on the line. He was tempted not to pick the call but later summoned tolerance and patience to hear what he had to say. He thought aloud, ‘who knows? May be he wants to invite me for his wedding’ ‘Tony! Tony! Tony! Please come over to my house. You were right when you called this girl a bitch. She has finished me’ Tony interrupted him as he was panting, crying on phone. ‘Steve, are you alright? Is everything okay?’ Steve shouted amidst tears and obvious pain, ‘Please quickly come over to my house!’ With that he dropped the phone and Tony dashed out heading to Steve’s house to find out what went wrong between Steve and Tracy, the Angel in human form.

 Step 3

 CHOOSE YOUR CHRISTIAN FRIEND:

 Go into courtship with a man/woman who is your Christian friend that you would consider marrying. Do not fall into wrong hands in the name of seeking for prince charming or Cinderella. Set your priorities right, you alone know what you want in a man or woman but make sure your priorities are not based on physical, financial and less important attributes. Very important! Be wise in your decision making because it could make or mar you. All that glitters are not gold. Choose someone that speaks the language you understand.ie Go into courtship with a fellow Christian.
